Abstract

STALIN TORRES, P; MARTINEZ, Marcos  and  PERDOMO R, Cenaida. Propuesta metodológica y experiencias en la preparación e impregnación de monolitos de suelo usando goma de carpintero. Bioagro [online]. 2003, vol.15, n.1, pp.31-40. ISSN 1316-3361.

A new methodology for preparation and preservation of soil monoliths was developed, based on the use of water dissolved carpenter gum, unlike the traditional methodology that uses lacquer and diluent like thinner. The use of the glue known as carpenter gum turned out to be more economic, with lower risk to health, and a shorter period of preparation and faster drying. The methodology is described and the accumulated experience for more than five years at the Information and Soil Reference Center (CIRS) of the Agronomy School, Universidad Central de Venezuela, in soil monolith preparation using this rnethod, that includes soils of different textures, degrees of pedogenetic development and agroecologic conditions, is presented. To date, 48 soil profiles have been so prepared and are conserved in excellent conditions of exhibition, with costs of preparation and maintenance remarkably diminished. The general characteristics of some of the prepared profiles are summarized and some recommendations presented.

Keywords : Soil profile; soil taxonomy; pedogenetic development; agroclimatic conditions .
