MORA, Orlando; GOMEZ, Hecdy  e  MILLA, Manuel. Evaluation of a conservation and management project in the high basin of Yaracuy River, Yaracuy State, Venezuela. II. Economic analysis. Bioagro [online]. 2003, vol.15, n.3, pp.165-172. ISSN 1316-3361.

During the period 1994-1999, a MARNR-BID conservation and management project was carried out in the high basin of Yaracuy River, with the objective of controlling the environmental degradation and contribute to mitigate the poverty of their inhabitants. At the end the project, the effect on the family net income (FNI) of the beneficiary farmers was evaluated using survey technique and multiple lineal regression analysis. The dependent variable was the FNI and the independent variables were the actions of the project transformed in quantitative and qualitative Dummy type. The regression analysis significantly related the FNI with the following variables: incorporated land by the farmers to the project (ILF), other incomes from activities outside their farms (AOF) and other incomes from the family group (IFG). These variables were economically analyzed. It was determined that the production costs increased proportionally with the ILF with a low value of the production. The highest contribution to the FNI was provided by the AOF and IFG. The mean FNI income in the year 2000 was Bs 520,829 (US$ 750), amount lower than the rural minimum salary, thus the farmers are still considered living in situation of rural poverty.
