Abstract

PINA, Sonia  and  BAUTISTA, Dámaso. Phenologic cycle of table grape (Vitis vinifera L.) cultivars under tropical conditions. Bioagro [online]. 2004, vol.16, n.1, pp.9-16. ISSN 1316-3361.

The phenology of grapevine cultivars was established by determining the duration of different growth phases of ‘Italia’, ‘Regina’, ‘Napoleón’, ‘Sultanina’, ‘Alphonse Lavallée’, ‘Red Globe’, ‘Datal’, ‘Perlón’, ‘Matilde’ and ‘Michelle Palieri’, grafted on ‘Criolla Negra’ during the first four productive cycles at the Exp. Sta. of the Grapevine Institute in El Tocuyo, Lara State, Venezuela (9° 48’ N; 630 meters a.s.l.). The average duration of the principal phenologic events of budburst, flowering, veraison and vintage from the pruning, as well as total duration of growth cycle and its subperiods were considered. The vineyard was supported on vertical trellis, trained in bilateral cordon and furrow irrigated. The period from pruning to budburst was approximately 11-12 days in ‘Sultanina’, ‘Perlón’, ‘Matilde’, ‘Regina’, ‘Red Globe’, ‘Italia’ and ‘Napoleón’, while in the rest was 13-14 days. The flowering occurred between 34 y 39 days after pruning, for all cultivars. Veraison occurred between 71 and 109 days from pruning, and determined the subperiod defining the total cycle duration. Cultivar classified as early cycles were Perlón, Matilde, Sultanina, and Regina with a cycle up to 109 days; intermediate were Michelle Palieri, Datal, Alphonse Lavallée, Red Globe and Italia with a cycle between 110 and 139 days and the late cycle was Napoleón with 140 or more days.

Keywords : Pruning; bud burst; flowering; veraison; vintage.
