RODRIGUEZ, Vianel; MALAVOLTA, Eurípedes; SANCHEZ, Aymara  y  LAVORANTI, Osmir. Balance nutricional de referencia de suelos y hojas en el cultivo del plátano Harton. Bioagro [online]. 2004, vol.16, n.1, pp.39-46. ISSN 1316-3361.

Several methods have been proposed to evaluate the nutritional status of the crops, although all of them show different degree of limitations. The objective of this research was to get the soil and leaves reference nutritional balance values by using a multivariate analysis for the Horn plantain crop at the south of Maracaibo lake, Venezuela. Sampling strata related to the Mucujepe-Escalante river soil series were established. In the experimental unit, as defined by the "mother" plant and its primary "son" or lateral sprout, thirty foliar samples were obtained in accordance with the International Reference Sampling Method for Musaceas. Simultaneously, soil samples were taken over the fertilizing band and at two depths (0-20 cm and 21-40 cm). Using the stepwise method, a regression model with lineal combinations for yield estimation was established. The obtained model showed a highly significant coefficient of 51.98% (r2), with normality of the standard residues. The population was divided into groups around 18 kg· racimo-1. The mean values from plants (N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, and Mo) and soil (pH, CE, OM, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, Na, and Zn) were considered as the balanced nutritional reference values. Such means simultaneously evaluate both the physical and chemical soil properties and the nutritional plant status significantly associated with the mean expected yield.
