Abstract
MUJICA, Henry and MOGOLLON, Norca. In vitro bulb formation of garlic (Allium sativum L.) by adding cytokinins and sucrose to the growth medium. Bioagro [online]. 2004, vol.16, n.1, pp.55-60. ISSN 1316-3361.
Individual effect of benciladenine (BA), zeatine (Z), and 2-isopentilamine (2-ip) combined with sucrose over in vitro bulb formation of garlic was evaluated. In vitro plants were cultured on MS medium supplemented with BA, Z or 2-ip at 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mg·L-1. Each of these cytokinins was combined with three concentrations of sucrose (3%; 6% and 9%). Plants were grown under a photon flux density of 62 μmol m-2·s-1, a photoperiod of 16 h and temperature of 23 ± 2 ºC. All cytokinins combined with sucrose were appropriated for bulb induction. After eight weeks of culture, microbulbs reached mean mass 0.627 g and diameter 10.93 mm on medium with 2.0 mg·L-1 of 2-ip. Higher bulb growth was obtained with higher sucrose concentrations. Results indicate an improvement of garlic bulb formation by using cytokinins and high sucrose levels in the growth medium
