ESCALONA, Carmen  e  VASQUEZ, Carlos. Efecto de las dietas de alimentación sobre la biología y tabla de vida de Euseius concordis (Chant) (Acari: Phytoseidae) . Bioagro [online]. 2005, vol.17, n.2, pp.109-114. ISSN 1316-3361.

Laboratory studies to obtain information about biology and life tables of the predatory mite Euseius concordis (Chant) were carried out. Mites were sampled in grapevines, cv. Criolla Negra, in Tarabana, Lara state, Venezuela. At the laboratory, E. concordis was fed on two sources consisting in minnieroot pollen, Ruellia tuberosa L. or with individuals at different development stages of Oligonychus punicae (Hirst) using leaf discs as rearing units. No differences on mean development time of E. concordis (5.31 and 5.83 days) were found when predatory mite fed on minnieroot pollen or O. punicae, respectively. However, preoviposition (3.3 and 1.7), oviposition (7.7 and 1.0), postoviposition (0.8 y 0.3 days) and longevity (11.8 and 4.3) showed significant differences. Fecundity of the predator fed on minnnieroot pollen was 0.7 eggs/female, whilst just one female oviposited during one day when fed on O. punicae. Life table parameters of E. concordis fed on pollen showed the following values: intrinsic rate of increse (rm) = 0.1625 individuals/female/day, net reproductive rate (R0) = 4.0, generation time (T) = 9.17 days and finite rate of increase (l ) = 1.17 times/female/day. Lack of oviposition and survival in most of the females fed on O. punicae suggests that tetranychid mite was an inappropriate prey.
