PRIETO-GARCIA¹, Francisco et al. Acumulación en tejidos vegetales de arsénico proveniente de aguas y suelos de Zimapán, Estado de Hidalgo, México . Bioagro [online]. 2005, vol.17, n.3, pp.129-136. ISSN 1316-3361.
ABSTRACT Accumulation in plant tissues of arsenic coming from water and soils of Zimapán, Hidalgo State, México It was studied the level of arsenic accumulation in vegetal tissues in the Zimapán region, Hidalgo State, México, since due to its geographic location and geomorphologic characteristics, the soils (and waters) contain naturally high levels of arsenic. The determination of the arsenic levels was made by atomic absorption by means of hydride generation. Samples of different vegetables, fruit crops, spices, and medicinal plants were analyzed. The results proved that the water and soils of this region have high arsenic levels, and most crops have elevated concentration of the element. Among the crops with the highest accumulation capacity there were spices like epazote and parsley, vegetables like chayote squash, bell pepper and tomato, fruit crops like chilacayote, orange, guava and avocado, and medicinal plants like toronjil. On the other hand, it was observed that the leaf was the plant organ that accumulated the highest level of arsenic.
