ARRIECHE, Isabel e MORA, Orlando. Efecto de la aplicación de residuos orgánicos sobre el cultivo del maíz en suelos degradados del Estado Yaracuy, Venezuela. Bioagro [online]. 2005, vol.17, n.3, pp.155-159. ISSN 1316-3361.
ABSTRACT Effect of applications of organic residues on maize performance in two soils of Yaracuy State, Venezuela The intense land cultivation for maize cropping on the last 50 years in Yaracuy State, Venezuela, caused an accelerated soil degradation expressed by loss of soil organic matter and crop productivity. With the objective of improving those parameters, the use of organic residues were evaluated by conducting field trials in two degraded soils at the locality of La Virgen, Bruzual Municipality, and the Yaritagua Local Experimental Station, Peña Municipality. Each trial was established in a randomized complete block design with three repetitions and the following treatments: (1) chicken manure composted by heat, (2) chicken manure composted by enzymes, (3) sugar cane filter cake composted by enzymes, and (4) control, without application. Organic residues were applied at doses of 2000 kg·ha-1 at sowing time, and the effect on the chemical soil characteristics, plant nutrient concentrations, and yield were tested. The analysis of the organic residues showed that the filter cake had lowest electrical conductivity and sodium levels than each chicken manure. The use of the residues, particularly the filter cake, increased the soil organic matter content in both trials, and there was higher leaf nitrogen content. The maize yield increased in both trials by the use of filter cake.
