ESCALONA, Yoleidy; RODRIGUEZ, Dorian; CONTRERAS, Nancy  y  JIMENEZ, Nixon. Patógenos del suelo en el cultivo de pimentón en la zona baja del Municipio Jiménez,   Estado Lara, Venezuela. Bioagro [online]. 2006, vol.18, n.1, pp.003-013. ISSN 1316-3361.

Bell pepper (Capsicum annuum L) is the fourth most cultivated vegetable in Venezuela. It is affected by several diseases being, the most important those caused by soil pathogens, such as wilt, yellowing and/or poor development, which are found in the basin of Jimenez County. To determine the identity of the pathogens involved in such problems, the present study was conducted by means of sampling farms located in the following places: Tintorero, Cuara, Cabo José Dorante, Coronel Mariano Peraza y Juan Bautista Rodriguez. Sampling included soils and symptomatic plants. By conventional diagnostic techniques it was found that Fusarium solani, Rhizoctonia solani, Phytophthora sp., Erwinia sp., Fusarium oxysporum and Ralstonia solanacearum are associated with the wilt. Likewise, the nematodes Meloidogyne incognita, Rotylenchus reniformis, Tylenchorhynchus annulatus, Helicotylenchus dihystera and Aphelenchoides sp. were also affecting also the crop. The presence of these pathogens in the area suggests that control measures should be taken to prevent major damages to the crop.
