Abstract

HERNANDEZ, Ramón; GONZALEZ, Alfredo  and  RIVERA, Patricia. Growing canola (Brassica napus and B. rapa) in Jalisco State, Mexico: I. Agronomic characteristics. Bioagro [online]. 2008, vol.20, n.3, pp.185-191. ISSN 1316-3361.

With the purpose of determining some probable benefits of canola production in Jalisco State, Mexico, the crop potential was studied in different counties of the regions of Ciénega and Sur de Jalisco. During four cycles of agricultural production in autumn-winter (2000-2004) varieties of canola were evaluated under irrigation conditions to select those important in grain production and other agronomic characteristics. Likewise, validation plots were established with farmers in areas where wheat is usually grown under a traditional system. The varieties with higher yields were Hyola 401 and Monty, which reached in some places more than 3 tons of grain per hectare.

Keywords : Germplasm evaluation; oilseeds; grain yield.
