HERNANDEZ, Ramón; RIVERA, Patricia y GONZALEZ, Alfredo. Growing canola (Brassica napus y B. rapa) in Jalisco State, México: II. Economic advantages over wheat crop. Bioagro [online]. 2009, vol.21, n.1, pp.57-62. ISSN 1316-3361.
With the purpose of performing a comparative economic analysis between canola and wheat (Triticum aestivum) in three municipalities of Jalisco State, México, four possible scenarios, based according to the selling price of these products, which vary according to some subsidies established in the country. It was found that the lower yield of canola as compared to wheat is compensated by its higher selling price. However, the production cost of canola is much lower than that for wheat. This implies that rentability of canola is higher than wheat, which even showed negative number for rentability in some municipalities. It is concluded that the canola represents an alternative for Jalisciense agriculture.
