Abstract
FLORES, Yadira et al. The red spot of guava in Cojedes State, Venezuela: Symptomatology and dissemination. Bioagro [online]. 2009, vol.21, n.1, pp.75-77. ISSN 1316-3361.
A new disease, caused by a pathogenic fungus, was found in 2003, affecting leaves and fruits of guava of the Red Dominican variety in the municipalities Ricaurte and Rómulo Gallegos of Cojedes State, Venezuela. In order to diagnose the disease, visits to commercial plantations were made, collecting fruits and leaves with symptoms characterized by reddish spots. The samples were initially transferred to the Fitopathologic Laboratory of FLASA, where isolations and sowings of the fungus in PDA were made; the fungus was subsequently identified in the INIA-CENIAP as Phyllosticta psidiicola (Petrak) Van der Aa. The pathogen causes diminution in commercial value of the fruit, and it has been scattered to other producing zones of guava in Cojedes State.
