Abstract
HANG, Guillermo et al. Identification of horticultural production systems in La Plata, Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Bioagro [online]. 2010, vol.22, n.1, pp.81-86. ISSN 1316-3361.
This paper shows the results of the research on the horticultural production systems located in the area of La Plata, which allow identifying and interpreting the changes in the local horticultural industry, following the process of political, social and economic crisis and subsequent devaluation that Argentineans lived in 2001. The objective of the research was to identify the production systems by using variables related to the kind of production, type of ownership, farm size, capital structure. The information was obtained from a total of 100 semi-structured surveys, with a predominance of closed answers, applied to horticultural producers. After applying the appropriate statistical methods, significant changes were evident in the structure of land tenure from social mobility achieved by Bolivian producers, associated with a strategy that reduced investment in fixed assets due to the economic instability. However, some traditional producers continued to behave consistently with what they were doing at the time before the crisis.
Keywords : Vegetable crops; agricultural economics; land tenure; fixed assets.
