VILLAFANE, Roberto. SoSalRiego: A procedure for diagnosing soil sodicity and salinity hazards with irrigation water. Bioagro [online]. 2011, vol.23, n.1, pp.57-64. ISSN 1316-3361.
A procedure is proposed for assessing the irrigation water quality, based upon hazards of soil sodicity and salinity. The quality indexes used herein are the amount of amendment required and the leaching fraction values. The inputs are water ionic composition, crop salt tolerance, drainage condition of soil and rainfall quantity. The outputs are kinds of salts in the irrigation water as well as needs of amendment and leaching to control of soil sodicity and salinity, respectively. Moreover, the method suggests management strategies such as water table control, use of high-frequency irrigation, leaving the soil in fallow for a given time, and selection of more tolerant crops. This procedure can be organized in Excel to make easy its use. Anyone can request by e-mail the program file prepared by the author.
