In Venezuela, the interest of small and medium producers for cultivation of plantain "Cambur manzano" has generated a great demand for propagation material, which must have high genetic and sanitary quality to ensure the establishment of healthy and uniforms plantations. The objective of this research was to evaluate in vitro culture of apical buds of this crop under different benzyladenine concentrations [BA] (0, 2.5 and 5.0 mg·L-1). The buds were obtained from plants coming from whole or sectioned corms. Additionally, the material was multiplied under the same [BA]. The [BA] and sectioning of the corm did not affect the percentage of explants with sprouted buds (PES) and viable explants (PVE) after 8 weeks of establishment, and a low contamination of the apical buds (19.97±9.97 %) was observed. During multiplication, contaminant microorganisms were not detected, and only the buds in medium with bencyldenine managed to stay viable (100%) and developed as plants. No differences were found between 2.5 and 5.0 mg·L-1 BA for PES (86,33±0,83 %), shoots by explant (1,7±0,08 shoots), explants with shoots with cauliflower shape (48,83±3,78 %) and number of such a shoots by explant (2,6±0,19 shoots). Therefore, the [BA] of 2.5 mg·L-1 seems to be the appropriate for in vitro multiplication of plantain "Cambur manzano".
