Resumen

REA, Ramón et al. Simultaneous selection for yield and stability in sugarcane genotypes in the Central-western region of Venezuela. Bioagro [online]. 2014, vol.26, n.3, pp.153-158. ISSN 1316-3361.

The genotype x environment interaction generally occurs when evaluating cultivars in different environments, and a stability analysis is often performed to estimate and interpret this interaction. For this study, a group was randomly selected out of 13 groups included in the Venezuelan Sugarcane Variety Development Program from the National Institute for Agronomic Research. The selected group consisted of seven sugarcane (Saccharum sp. hybrid) clones (V78-2, CP72-2086, Mex 64-1487, V77-11, CP74-2005, V77-9, and V77-12) and three commercial controls (PR61-632, PR980, and V64-10). Clones were evaluated in eight environments during three crops (plant, first, and second ratoons). Yield-stability statistic (YSi), that combines both stability and yield on a single criterion for selecting, was used to evaluate the behavior of this specific group of genotypes considering both cane yield (TCH) and sugar content (Pol % cane). The results showed that genotypes V77-12, CP72-2086, CP74-2005, PR980, and PR61632 were the best in cane yield; meanwhile, the best in sugar content were CP74-2005, CP72-2086, V77-12, and V77-9.
