ALVARADO, Hipólito; RONDON, Iliana  e  MONDRAGON, Alcides. Floristic and structure of two semiarid intervened horny in San Francisco, Torres municipality, Lara State, Venezuela. Bioagro [online]. 2015, vol.27, n.3, pp.173-180. ISSN 1316-3361.

The diversity of plants in tropical regions is very important because this biota helps maintain the stability of the ecosystem, while many of them have economic importance. In this study, floristic and structural aspects of two thorny semiarid ecosystems were characterized in San Francisco, Torres Municipality, Lara State, Venezuela. Sampling was made from April 2010 to January 2011. Five 5 x 10 m-subplots were established to cover a total area of 250 m2 in each location. All individuals with diameter at breast height greater or equal to 2.5 cm were sampled at each subplot. Thirty seven species included in 32 genera and 20 families belonging from Magnoliopsida were found. Families with the higher number of species were: Leguminosae sensu lato with 8 species, Cactaceae with 7 species, Capparaceae and Euphorbiaceae with three species each, Malvaceae and Rubiaceae with two species each. Results indicated that in San Francisco the predominating diametric class varied from 10.01 to 15.0 cm (DBH), representing 28 % of the total number of individuals, while in Santa Rosa, varied from 15.01 to 20 cm DHB representing 23.91 % of the total number. The species with higher IVI in San Francisco were Subpilocereus repandus, Mimosa arenosa and Malpighia emarginata, while in Santa Rosa were Croton argyrophyllus, Pilocarpus goudotianus and Aspidosperma cuspa. Results showed that both studied areas have low diversity values. Based on altimetric classes we can state that predominat vegetation cover is a xeric thorny and a low scrub in San Francisco and Santa Rosa, respectively.
