PAZ, Ramón e ARRIECHE, Norayda. Spatial distribution of Thrips tabaci (Lindeman) 1888 (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) in Quibor, Lara State, Venezuela. Bioagro [online]. 2017, vol.29, n.2, pp.123-128. ISSN 1316-3361.
Thrips tabaci (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) is an important pest in onion culture of Lara State, Venezuela, which makes it necessary to have instruments that allow its accurate monitoring. In this research, geostatistics was used for the study of the spatial distribution of the insect in order to provide information for the establishment of management programs in onion culture. The crop cycle corresponding to March-June 2015 was evaluated in Quíbor, Lara State, in a 5 ha onion field, Campo Lindo variety, where 56 sampling points were located 25 m apart. Each point was georeferenced in UTM coordinates, Regven system. Eleven samples were taken with a weekly frequency, and 5 plants per point were selected in each sampling to evaluate the number of insects per plant. To determine the spatial distribution, the ArcGIS version 9.3 program and the Kriging interpolation method were used. Predictive maps were used to determine insecticide applications according to the pest distribution pattern. The structural analysis showed that all the samples were adjusted to the exponential theoretical model, and the spatial dependence of the data was high in almost all samplings. The distribution pattern of onion thrips was found to be aggregated, so the management of insecticide applications should be performed in the insect clustering foci.
