A qualitative study about the meaning of congenital malformations and its implications in the prevention programs for the venezuelan population is made. There are used qualitative and quantitative methodologies, using the questionnaire as technique for the data collection. Its application has been done in two maternal centers: the Maternity Concepción Palacios and the Maternal Center Leopoldo Aguerrevere in Caracas - Venezuela. The knowledge of the term congenital malformation and the risk factors associated to its appearance are analyzed as variables. From this investigation comes off the need to execute diffusion campaigns about the referred topic while prevention programs are applied in the country.
