The present paper seeks to address the concept of gender violence from violence against women, also developing the concept of femicide in the context of political mobilization that emerges from the rape and death of Sandra Ayala Gamboa in the city of La Plata (Argentina) on February 16, 2007. On this case, the gap between theory and practice drives on the one hand, to the isolation of academic feminists, and secondly, to a thoughtless pragmatism of the feminist groups and organizations. In our view, critical thinking and analysis of policy actions should be driven as parts of the same process.
