Resumen

CAMACARO CUEVAS, Marbella. Patologizando lo natural, naturalizando lo patológico… improntas de la praxis obstétrica. Revista Venezolana de Estudios de la Mujer [online]. 2009, vol.14, n.32, pp.147-162. ISSN 1316-3701.

Harnessing research looking at a kind of genderbased violence: Obstetric Violence, focusing on medicalization and pathologization of lowrisk childbirth. We assume the feminist theory and gender as a category of analysis. We approached to the own experience of people in charge of obstetric care in hospital delivery rooms (obstetricians, residents and interns) through focused interviews that reflected the saturation of Knowledge. All episodes are medicalized, from birth until death. This kind of obstetric care reduces the possibility of women to fend for themselves, depending on a medical intervention to deal with their sexual, reproductive, psychological and even daily life.

Palabras clave : Medical Violence; Gender Violence; Medical Childbirth.
