This article seeks to provide evidence for the importance of the role of grandmothers as child care takers of their emigrating sons ‘and daughters’ children. Thanks to this, and through international migration, family projects undertaken by younger women who are now able to seek better job opportunities to improve their family living standards are facilitated, while they are supported by their mothers. At the same time, industrialized countries benefit from foreign women’s labor as they make important contributions to these nations’ economies
