Abstract

Many companies in the world, aware of affectation that generate in the environment, has adopted new management practices confront the environmental problem, increase competitivity and obter benefits. Inside these practices, normative of voluntary adscription tipe ISO 14001, help in conformation new model of industrial production. It presents an empiric research in 73 companies with activities generate high impact in the environment. The revised variables were: characteristic of the productive activity, performance environmental, adopted approaches of environmental management and especially, the adoption of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) - ISO 14001. The results indicate that EMS-ISO 14001 in the country are still in initial phase. The performance environmental of transnational companies has been transferred Venezuela, generating an effect multiplier that stimulates the adoption of environmental management in national industry. The analysis of results allows to conclude that installation of Systems of Environmental Management, without adopting radical changes in the way of approaching the environmental thematic, is insufficient to guarantee a sector industrial chord with sustainable development premises.
