Abstract
MORA, Víctor and CEDENO, Jorge. Water physicochemical and bacteriological determination in the treatment stages in a potabilization plant. uct [online]. 2006, vol.10, n.37, pp.41-45. ISSN 1316-4821.
The purpose of this research was to determine if water is physicochemically and bacteriologically drinkable and corrosive in the treatment stages for raw, settled and filtered water at the Angostura Plant of Ciudad Bolivar, Bolivar State. The research was descriptive and analytical and was made by means of water sampling between the pumping station in the Orinoco River and the rapid mixture in the plant. Samples were analyzed according to the Standard Method and the total number of bacillus coli (BC) was determined through the fermentation technique in multiple tubes. The results obtained for dissolved solids, CO2, alkalinity, hardness, calcium, magnesium, chloride, sulfate and nitrate are in the range of acceptable values. However, the pH and mg/l of aluminum for settled and filtered samples are out of the limit values of the Quality Standards for Drinkable Water. The decrease of fecal bacillus coli in settled water samples and their absence in filtered samples, allows for water potability to be within the acceptable scale. The dosage of coagulant and the mixing mechanisms operate inadequately causing chemical instability with tendency to corrosion.
