Due to the risks that represent the wastes generated in the health centers, a set of norms and laws for their handling have taken place. The objective of this work is to analyze the normative effective in some countries of Latin America on medical wastes. Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, México, Uruguay and Venezuela, have norms for handling medical wastes. These countries use different classification systems. Nevertheless, the specifications for the transport, storage and treatment, are similar. The norms of Argentina, Ecuador and Uruguay are contemplated the sanctions to the breach of the norms. Given the danger that represents the hospitable wastes in the Latin America it is considered necessary a global norm to control the risks associate.
