Abstract It is generally accepted that the industrial activity is the main responsible for atmospheric emissions, production of dangerous wastes, generation of liquid effluents, as well as to produce thermal and sonic pollution. Man is the principal modifier of his environment, and it is necessary to generate a responsible attitude with respect to the environment. The course Prevention of Industrial Pollution, an elective course in the curricula of various programs of Universidad Simón Bolívar, seeks to offer to the future professionals the tools to understand and generate changes in the environmental policies of their future work centers in connection with the environment. The objective of this paper is to present the course Prevention of Industrial Pollution as a proposal at university level to lead to the development and self-consciousness regarding the contamination problem generated by the industrial processes that he will encounter in his professional future. It includes the main objectives that are intended to cover in this course, including the program contents, as well as the teaching-learning and assessment strategies that are applied. Also included are two case studies by two participants in the last issue of the course for the term April-July, 2005.
