GONZALEZ DE LEON, Marco et al. FATIGUE ANALYSIS OF WELDED JOINTS IN CARBON STEEL PLATES FOR PRESSURE VESSELS . uct [online]. 2008, vol.12, n.49, pp.287-294. ISSN 1316-4821.
In this article, a fatigue analysis of welded joints of SA-516-70, carbon steel widely used for the fabrication of pressure vessels, is presented. Butt-welded joints with a bevel angle of 30 degrees made by using AWS E-7018 electrodes were tested to bending fatigue. The tests were developed to 75, 80, 85 and 90 % of the minimum yield strength, which was obtained from static tensile tests. High-magnification visual examinations and microindentation hardness testing were used to characterize the materials. The results show seam welds did not affect the fatigue resistance of material. Additionally, an experimental S-N family of curves is obtained for SA-516-70, shown values of fatigue resistance greater than theoretical values.
