Abstract
WALTER, Julio; CEGLIA, Gerardo; GUZMAN, Víctor and GIMENEZ, María Isabel. COMPARATION OF THREE HIGH FREQUENCY HIGH POWER TRANSFORMERS TOPOLOGIES USING MAGNETIC FINITE ELEMENTS. uct [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.50, pp.005-012. ISSN 1316-4821.
This work compares the magnetic behavior of three high frequency, high power transformers designed to produce the same output characteristics, using three different topologies in the secondary windings and the magnetic circuits, a conventional one, used as the reference, and two with coaxial windings, one with E-cores (EE Model Coaxial Transformer) and the other with toroidal cores (Coaxial Toroidal Transformer). The three models basic parameters are calculated with a generic simplified transformer design method. Once the transformers are designed, a Magnetic Finite Elements program is used to calculate each design main parameters (flux density, flux lines, etc), and the results obtained in the three topologies are compared, being evident that the Coaxial Toroidal Transformer is the one that achieves the best magnetic material use, keeping the best magnetic flux distribution and avoiding flux concentrations over the values allowed by the core material, that can cause over-heating and damages in the transformer.
