Abstract
COLL SERRANO, Vicente and BLASCO BLASCO, Olga. The spanish textile industry before the sectors liberalization: An analysis based on the technical efficiency and the size of the firms. uct [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.52, pp.199-210. ISSN 1316-4821.
The Spanish textile industry is in crisis as a result of increasing competition. The productive efficiency of the firms is established by the direct determinant of their level of competitiveness (Roca and Sala, 2005). Using accounting information, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is employed to assess the productive efficiency of small and mid-size Spanish textile firms. Therefore, bearing in mind the size of the firm, the principal aim of the analysis conducted consists in evaluating the position of the Spanish textile industry, in terms of efficiency, in order to deal with increasingly more intense and aggressive competition from such countries as China, India, Pakistan and Vietnam, largely as a result of low prices. Of the seven textile sub-sectors established by CNAE-93, the results obtained indicate that efficiency levels are low, making it necessary to promote significant improvements in consumption product factors.
