The first scientific initiative from the Venezuelan universities to fully develop probe rockets comes from the Universidad de Los Andes by the support of the Chancellor’s Commission Space Science Program. A team of multi- and interdisciplinary researchers was conformed in January 2006 in order to develop a solid propellant rocket having scientific applications and named Probe Rocket ULA. The objective of this paper is to describe the scopes and achievements obtained during the development of the project of the probe rockets of solid propellant and the social and scientific-technological implications that such project have for Venezuela.
