The Sustainable Development is the strategy by means of which the communities look for focuses of economic development that at the same time are beneficial to the environment and the quality of life local; but this should be measured with appropriate indicators to know their tendencies and conditions among the dimensions that conform it. The fundamental objective of this investigation was to elaborate a methodological proposal that allows the selection and elaboration of a system of indicators of Sustainable Development for the Autonomous Municipality Caroní. The study was framed in the methodological focus of the type no experimental, analytic and descriptive. The proposed methodology consists of seven stages:1) Specification of the Environment and selection of the units of territorial analysis, 2) Determination of a reference mark for the elaboration of the indicators of the system, 3) Specification of approaches and potential indicators related with the objectives, 4 Development of a matrix of key indicators and specific indicators or complementary, 5) Selection of sustainability indicators in their three dimensions (environmental, economic and social), 6) Specification of aggregation methodology and visualization of indicators and 7) Systematization of information.
