The "conucos" in Venezuela are swidden land (1 hectare), grown by an owner (conuquero) low income, to produce subsistence agricultural products and marketing. Microcuenca in the Quebrada El Diablo (MQED) "conucos" are located on steep slopes and fragile soils, cultural practices (slash and burn) unsuitable for agricultural sustainability and conservation of natural resources. The objective of this paper is to present sustainable agricultural alternatives adapted to environmental and socio-economic characteristics of the MQED. It consisted of two stages: I, diagnosis of current environmental problems and II, determination of the conceptions of "conuqueros" and farmers about agricultural and cultural practices they perform. The main agricultural practices observed are: cutting, weeding and burning, planting, weed and pest control and harvest. The difficulties encountered are water, economic resources, livestock, human resources and pests. The proposed solutions to the problems encountered are: 1. Rainwater collection, reuse and save, building tanks and piping, 2. creating microenterprises and Civil Association, 3. Agreements for the purchase of cattle and, 4. Design and development of an Environmental Education Program.
