In this work were studied the competences of the microentrepreneurs in the canton of Milagro, Province of the Guayas - Ecuador, in order to obtain a diagnosis of their current situation that allows to design strategies to improve its productive development and sustainability in time, at the same time contributing to the socio-economic growth of the region and the country. This has made a non-experimental, field research, a data collection instrument was applied to a sample of 311 microentrepreneurs selected by intentional sampling of agreement with the needs of the researcher, differentiating gender, sector and commercial activity, and through the application of exploratory research, rose information through enquiries made in relation to the main variables of the study (competencies, microenterprise, performance, social economy). The analysis of information confirmed the problem, and determine most relevant competences that have micro-entrepreneurs, both personal and in their work environment. From the situational analysis, managed to identify aspects that make up strengths and the areas of greatest weakness of the micro enterprise sector and allows to propose actions and implement strategies that contribute to micro-entrepreneurs to its inclusion in the new economic system established in the Ecuador and the availability that have to adapt to the new guidelines of the social and solidarity economy, which seeks to promote joint business and cooperatives, with a view to strengthen the competencies of individuals, and thus ensure a sustainable productive development over time and that allows them to improve their quality of life, based on the objectives and principles of the National Plan of good living.
