Resumen

LACRUZ, Leonardo et al. Experimental analysis of efficiency in a solid propellant sounding rocket motor. uct [online]. 2015, vol.19, n.74, pp.4-10. ISSN 1316-4821.

This paper is an experimental study of the combustion efficiency in a solid propellant rocket motor, belonging to the space science program at the University of Los Andes. The main objective was the evaluation of combustion in the motor, which uses tubular grains of solid propellant composed. The grains are composed of Potassium Nitrate as oxidant, and Sucrose as carburant in mass ratio 65/35. Three grains were used with the same geometric configuration and chemical composition, with a variation of mass between them. Three static tests were conducted in order to acquire the pressure data, subsequently leaked with the Savirzky-Golay method, obtaining the pressure versus time curves, which were used to calculate the characteristic velocity, based on the quasi-static combustion criterion. Finally, the values of characteristic velocity calculated were compared with the ideal value for this type of propellant that is found in similar jobs, obtaining the combustion efficiency, also was able to observe the relationship between fluctuations in the internal pressure and the efficiency of combustion.

Palabras clave : Solid propellant; Sounding rocket; Combustion characteristic velocity; Nozzle; Combustion efficiency.
