CHAPARRO-MARTINEZ, Exio I; ALVAREZ-MUNOZ, Patricio  and  D'ARMAS-REGNAULT, Mayra. Information management skills: Databases scopus and web of science for academic purposes . uct [online]. 2016, vol.20, n.81, pp.166-175. ISSN 1316-4821.

This article describes a project to improve the knowledge that members of the community of Universidad Estatal Milagro (UNEMI), Ecuador, make to the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus. The purpose is to educate the community on the access and use of these databases, both as sources of information as ways of training. Workshops for the description and usage were planned and designed to develop skills in documentary research, with emphasis on the process of retrieving information in electronic systems (databases). The workshops are developed considering the individual and contextual characteristics of groups-individuals involved, to suit different levels, timing, intensity, methodology and number of participants (coverage). 75 students of the Faculty Science Education and Communication and 40 teachers of different faculties participated. Overall the practical utility of these databases in developing a scientific or academic research shows that these databases support at all stages of the research: from the initial search for information, knowledge organization, and reference management.
