Pterygium is an ocular pathology that occurs among workers in the agricultural and productive area of Ecuador. The present study aimed to identify the relationship between the use of agricultural chemicals, sun exposure and other irritants, and the appearance of pterygium in the personnel of the packing area of the San Luis farm of the Panigon enclosure of the province of Los Rios, Ecuador, Colombia. between the months of April and September 2022. An analytical, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out. As a result, it was found that 70% of workers with pterygium are detected, despite the fact that the company applies biosecurity protocols. This confirms previous studies pointing to chemical exposure and sunlight as the main causes of pterygium. The importance of implementing visual care practices was reaffirmed, avoiding exposure to chemical factors.

Palabras clave : Pterygium; diagnostics; agricultural chemicals; eye care.
