The objective of this research was to describe the role of socioemotional competencies in university education. The role of the teacher in the educational process of students, the benefits of acquiring these competencies and their importance in the workplace were analyzed. For this purpose, a bibliographic search was carried out in Scopus and Scielo, so that a bibliographic review could be carried out to develop this article. It was shown that universities have been implementing strategies to adequately train and prepare teachers in emotional education, thus contributing to the training of graduates and facilitating the acquisition of these competencies. It was concluded that it is necessary to implement socioemotional competencies in university education, since it provides graduates with skills that will allow them to respond to the demands of the labor market.
