Abstract

CANTOS VERA, Nelly Monserrate; CHOEZ CEDENO, Gabriela Andrea; TOALA ZAMBRANO, Cindy María  and  MATUTE SANTANA, Javier Jonathan. Toxoplasmosis in blood and its incidence in infants who maintain contact with domestic animals. uct [online]. 2025, vol.29, n.127, pp.52-60.  Epub July 20, 2025. ISSN 1316-4821.  https://doi.org/10.47460/uct.v29i127.962.

In this study, the incidence of toxoplasmosis in children from different social groups who are related to domestic animals, especially cats, was studied. A quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental methodology was used, using non-probabilistic convenience sampling. Home visits were made to collect information on hygiene practices and the presence of cats in the homes. The data were analyzed using the Chi- square test to evaluate the relationship between the variables. The main results revealed a high incidence of toxoplasmosis in the child population studied, especially in those who lived with this type of animal, which is very common at home. These findings underline the need to implement preventive strategies in areas with high exposure and to promote hygiene education at home.
