GARCIA DE BERRIOS, Omaira. Rationality in the business-university relationship models - Part II. La Revista Venezolana de Educación (Educere) [online]. 2005, vol.9, n.28, pp.107-113. ISSN 1316-4910.

The University of Zulia and the University of Los Andes, in Venezuela, maintain relations with the productive sector through internal and external structures that allow the development of certain projects, as well as the development of administrative processes from the academic, political and economic perspectives. The purpose of this study is to get to know the rationality of each one of the administrative models. To achieve this goal, ideas on administrative rationality as a study category that orients the research are synthesized. Variables that identify the rationality model in each aspect of the relationship are identified: Foundation in L.U.Z. and Corporation in U.L.A. Through descriptive and constructive methodology, with documental-analytical bases, we find, first of all, that the rationality behind the “Foundation” model (L.U.Z.) starts from a “projection” level (vision, industrial patent, State participation and open to science and technology). It goes through an institutional rationality level, characterized among other things by ideological and philosophical elements. Then it reaches an operational level in which structures, operative fields, guidelines and organizational purposes that guarantee business effectiveness are some of the elements. Secondly, it is shown that the “Corporation” rationale (U.L.A.) goes from an”abstract level. Not appreciable in the characterization of the model, but underlying in the declared intention of purposes; goes on to a projection level (viability and possibility) to reach an operational level, that reveals an explicit rationale, a sequence order of absolutely operative activities. Finally, it is noted that even though the structures of each model are different, there are different levels of rationality and intention that are equal, placed in different positions, leading to questions on the frequency of events in which the same levels of rationale are maintained in each model.

Palabras clave : administrative model; administration rationality.
