NARVAEZ, Eleazar. Higher education in Latin America facing the challenges of globalization. La Revista Venezolana de Educación (Educere) [online]. 2005, vol.9, n.29, pp.181-188. ISSN 1316-4910.
Higher Education in Latin America is facing old and new challenges. As well as the unresolved problems of modernity, we must concentrate on other problems that have arisen through the dynamics proper to globalization. Nonetheless, to grasp the sense of purpose of making Higher Education fit for the challenges of the present time, it is necessary that we are clear with regard to what we are talking about when we use the word globalization. And the dominant features of the context in which the actions of the phenomenon alluded to by this concept take place. This is very important to understand how the weakening of public Higher Education has come about in the region; the new relationships among Higher Education, the working world and society; the relativization and enrichment of the culture of the people involved; and the new demands of the curriculum and the ways of teaching and learning.
