HERAS G, Leticia. Higher education policies in Mexico: award programs for professors and researchers. La Revista Venezolana de Educación (Educere) [online]. 2005, vol.9, n.29, pp.207-215. ISSN 1316-4910.

The objective of this essay is to examine, after being in effect for two decades, the results of one of the most sensitive parts of higher education policies in Mexico: the award programs for professors and researchers. In the first place, this examination is done by identifying the educational economic and political context in which these programs were started in Mexico. Secondly, a detailed analysis is carried out of each program, such as the SNI, PROMEP, as well as those handled by the higher education institutes and controlled by the federal government. This part includes some of the consequences that they have brought for the professor’s academic work. We finish by offering a general panorama of the changes that all of this is having on the academic life of Mexican universities.
