The intellectual education of a teacher is linked to two types of practice: socio-educational and reflective one verbal and the other physical, respectively. The continuous movement in both directions of these practices encompasses the symbolic areas, which lead to that which we recognise as the discursive moment. This includes both feeling and perception about fundamental concepts of education. From this perspective, having taken the previous categories into consideration we endeavour to comprehend the French teacher Philippe Meirieu’s intellectual education and career path. The length and complexity of his written work gives us enough material to face up to such a challenge from a hermeneutic point of view.
