Resumen

ROJAS, Clea. Teaching latin or teaching against it: living teaching of a dead language at the Faculty of Humanities and education of the University of Los Andes (ULA).. La Revista Venezolana de Educación (Educere) [online]. 2005, vol.9, n.31, pp.571-577. ISSN 1316-4910.

Latin subjet on both levels (I and II), is the same on the pensum of two of the majors of the School of Letters (Languages and Classic Literatures and Language and Hispano-American and Venezuelan Literature) and also at School of Modern Languages of the Faculty of Humanities and Education at the Universidad de Los Andes, that its why it is on high request by the students, and its teaching entails problems whose main causes we expose in this essay. Starting from this reality and my experience as a teacher in this area, I proposed, and also use, a brand new methodology completely diferent from the traditional introductory strategy for first classes of latin subjet, in order to make the learning easier for most of the students. This have drove me to reconsider the objectives of the subjet and to reflect on the thrully value that teaching latin has reached in our Faculty, a different and particular value, but not less valid, which however, entails to consider the permanence sense of this subjec within our pensa.
