TOVAR, Rosa María et al. The art of creating by writing: textual production in elementary school children. La Revista Venezolana de Educación (Educere) [online]. 2005, vol.9, n.31, pp.589-598. ISSN 1316-4910.
This is a qualitative-type study aiming to understand the process followed by a group of first and second grade students when producing narrative texts: Short Stories. Information was collected through written documents, participants observation and non-structured interviews. The analysis was carried out parallel to the collection of data, which constituted the basis to organize the pedagogic proposal inside an environment given to writing learning as a process to construct meanings. Two major categories were found: 1. - The children knowledge of short story as a literary genre: the results obtained after analyzing the childrens first draft. 2. - Characteristics of the short story production process: aspects taken into consideration by the student when producing their texts; difficulties found; offered solutions; and achieved improvements. To conclude, the children were able to: (a) Know the basic structure of short stories as a literary genre: beginning, conflict, exposition and denouement, and ending. (b) Using drafts as an instrument of written production. (c) To incorporate proofreading as an indispensable sub-process in the process of writing.
