The word school carries a content that has to do with what it really is, which is why it is interesting to immerse ourselves in a meaning-exploration exercise which will inevitably take us to face word “crisis” as one of the epistemological obstacles that limit the rethinking of the school. This journey shows the history of the school, old diaries of the schooling culture updating themselves with time, making the old seem new as well. Some distinctive features of the schooling culture such as power, discipline, and schooling knowledge have gestated among others to the light of the purpose society allocated to school. Particularly, the history of the Venezuelan school does not differ from the universal school history, but what it does have is much less background, enough time however to notice that we undoubtedly have a particular idiosyncrasy, yet there are some processes generalized in schools by permanent, common, and universal means of power. Conclusions will show how in history, school’s destiny was marked by society; however today, even though school is what is was meant to be, the feeling of “crisis” embraces us, as well as the disappointment before the promises that have supported the hope o a better life pinned in schooling. It is possible that revealing the meaning we give to schooling culture can free us from the curse.
