The purpose of this paper is to present the Discourse Analysis and its working methodology as a valuable instrument for the observation of classroom communication processes and, as an evaluation and reflection element of the pedagogical practice. In order to do this we observed, transcribed and analyzed some classroom sequences of a Spanish as a foreign language class. We wanted to study the students’ and teacher’s use of the language, double focalization, and enjambments, and how and who uses the question. All this to illustrate their function in the classroom dynamics and communication system and in the teaching and learning processes.
