Information professional’s education in venezuela: a comparative look from their curricular designs The article presents the characteristics of information professional’s education in Venezuela from a comparative research on the curricular designs of Bibliotecology and Archival majors offered in two universities around the country: Universidad Central de Venezuela and Universidad del Zulia. Framed within a much wider study1, the research considers as a starting point the expected trends for 21st century university education, and the challenges today’s society poses to these professionals’ education. The deductive method is used, by which categories and properties stem from, both syste;matized in a record tool and content comparison. Then, the previous designs are compared on the basis of the categories and properties developed. The main results show that information professional’ education in Venezuela is based on aca;demic models. Also, it is necessary to study in depth teleological and axiological grounds’ construction, and to carry out joined market studies to empirically support curricular designs and move forward towards education processes that move within global and local environments. Since the idea is to educate information professionals for the country, but at the same time in a more globalized context.
