PEREZ TAPIA, José Antonio. The tasks of education in the digital culture. Educere [online]. 2006, vol.10, n.33, pp.217-224. ISSN 1316-4910.
The author places digital culture in the context of the “information society”, and digitalism is an expression originated here and the result of new information and communication technologies. These technologies have a profound efect in society and culture because they permeate all aspects of human life. The possibilities they ofer are numerous, but the risks are obvious. A network of hidden economic, multinational and political interests sustains the technocratic colonization of social reality, in relation to power. This union is a fundamental need that is created within the framework of capitalism and its reason for existing: the market. Thus transforming technology in the most powerful of ideologies, in the hands of experts, who are now sacred because of their knowledge and they have become the priests of the church of science and fields of thought. To educate in new technologies requires more than just connecting to the Internet, a new group of pedagogical, economic, political and cultural conditions are needed, so that they are considered as a means and not as an end. We are still not close to eliminating functional illiteracy, but the fight against it and ultimately destroying it in any way, comes from technological obsession as a solution. Conceived this way, the technological abyss between countries deepens if eyes, look and place are on the axis of savage capitalism.
