This article analyzes the social function of school and the efects that the school experience has on the life of the subjects involved in it. It aims to establish the possibility of incorporating Education for peace within the dynamics of the educational system as an option that tries to define its socializing task in response to the problems in society today. Proposals are presented to convert initial education centers in areas for peace, based on the principles presented in UNESCO ’s 2000 Manifest for a culture of peace.
