This study aims to research the cognitive processes promoted in students starting from the verbal interaction pattern shown by the university professor in the development of classroom activities. For this purpose, the verbal exchange between a teacher and his group of students was observed and recorded during classroom situations. The analysis of the data obtain was done by using the Flanders category system, and the application of content analysis in the verbal participation of the teacher. The results show a tendency on behalf of the teacher to handle a verbal interaction pattern with indirect influence, in which there is a wide percentage of verbal participations with reference to questions and statements that can lead students to exercising certain cognitive processes.
